I have a vxdiag vcx nano for gm but i have noticed that there are others for difference brands, visually there isn't much difference in each and by there discription they all support the same protocols, and support j2534 pass thru. So is it just the firmware/software that locks them To a brand ? Also seeing that they do a 3 in 1 pro version makes me even more curious, as this version gives you three different brands and can purchase more. So can the brand specific versions be unlocked/ hacked to support these other brands?

Answer:

You need a dump of the firmware in the Vxdiag processor, it must contain the serial number and license.

We have customer dumped the firmware from the device.

They try to do it with the help of STlink or Jlink. Connect as in the picture.

and try to get bootloader not just firmware. You have to lower protection from level 2 to 1. All in pdf.

They find a way to get the license file from vcxdiag servers, but they are clearly encrypted. Below are file of vcx nano, and one for a VCX Pro unit. Same size license file, both files start with this :

If you dump bootloader from GM and Ford-Mazda vxdiag, you can use one tool for 3 brands.

But another question is that Ford's and GM's boards are different and not all communication protocols will work in a GM program on a Ford board.
Test results:
1. Plugging the device back, it won't start.
2. screwed up in writing this in the STM32
3. st32f407 is completely cleaned, after uploading GM dump or Ford still does not work
Be cautious some killed their vcx nano by flashing the bootloader/firmware.
Don't take a risk to unlock vcx nano for multi-brands. You are missing licenses for other brands as well.
If need a vcx for 3 brands, get a VCX SE Pro
If need 7 brands, get vxdiag full brands.

Program 2012 Cadillac CTS Key Fob with VXDIAG VCX NANO

I got a new Key FOB for my 2012 Cadillac CTS Coupe 3.6, I tried to program the new key fob the simple way (with the lock cylinder 5 times etc..) but nothing worked (nothing shows on DIC).
So I tried to program it with my Tech2Win adapter.
Whenever I go to program it, it just shows an error – 'Device Control Not Allowed'.

as I said my coupe wouldn't go into the key fob programming mode (with the 5 times turn key on the trunk lock cylinder) no matter what I did.

I got my VXDIAG VCX NANO GM and instead of using Tech2Win I went into acdelcotds.com and got a subscription for my VIN.
Downloaded and ran their Techline Connect program, then flashed "V.T.D. Keyless Ignition (With rotary switch) Vehicle Theft Deterrent Learn. " -> "Prepare RCDLR for key fob programming. ".

Random lights in the car flashed, it made me wait ~12 minutes, then when it finished my key fob still worked, but when I did the 5 key turns on the lock thing, it went right to the programming mode on the DIC, as all the guides show.

Well, turns out the key fob I got from AliExpress doesn't work with my car, so I need to get a new fob from somewhere. Its the 433mhz model for export, so its really hard to find.

Finnaly found a based key fob on Amazon that works that is $25 but it is really cheap. Have one as my second remote.

This is done thru SPS. It should be the same as new Techline Connect.

Replace and Program Cadillac ECM Module:

In total it only took 30 mins.

Step 1: Make sure you disconnect the negative battery cable before starting, the bolt size is 8mm/5/16″

Step 2: Next, remove the plastic cover and you'll see the ECM towards the bottom.(Circled in picture below)

Step 3: There's a tab (Blue arrows) in the center of the connectors that you'll need to press while lifting the metal clamps. The top one was broken on mine so I just used a flathead screwdriver to move the tabs (they're sticking out at the top, circled on red) down while pulling on the connector.

Step 4: Now all that's left is to remove the bolts, the 4 on the corners (Circled in blue) are 10mm/3/8″, while the black ground wire (Circled in black) is being held by a T20 bit.

Step 5: Now just reinstall the bolts(do them first) and connectors (push the clamp/the top tab down while holding it in place) to your new ECM, and you're done being under the hood. Protip: Make sure the ground wire is facing up before screwing it in, I made that mistake and had to take it back off and turn it the right way.

Step 6: Now here's the fun part, if your ECM is used or brand new it will have to be programmed. I bought mine from eBay that programs them to your VIN before shipping, if yours is used it can driven to a shop after performing a 30-minute key relearn. If you got one that's already programmed like me just do the relearn procedure and you're good to go.


You can also program them yourself with a device called the VXDIAG VCX Nano GM (The tool is ~$119 and the fee to access SPS is $40).

Step 7: Now just follow these steps to perform a Idle Relearn:

1. Turn OFF the ignition for 30 seconds.
2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF for 60 seconds.
3. Turn OFF the ignition.
4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Step 8: Congrats, you're all done!

I have the wired vxdiag vcx nano gm interface from vxdiagshop.com. It comes with a USB plug, GDS2, Tech2Win, and a license but needs to be renewed using VXManager periodically (60 days).

The GDS crack may be out of date but certainly miles better than those cheap Bluetooth scanners.

Great for bi-directional commands. It works the ABS pumps on a '96 Corvette (first year of OBD2) and a '03 Z06. But it won't work on a C5 corvette and 4th gen camaro for ABS and airbag. As I was told it is better for newer vehicles. It works fine on my notebook for my 2011 Cadillac CTS though.

The sequence you have to go through for it to start is interesting. Open the VXManager first and make sure the dongle is found. Then open the Tech2Win via the configurator so must select "North America" first. If not are liable to get the menu with just F0 and F1.

Just had a surprise with my NANO. Said "license has expired". Had to go to VXDIAG, download latest VX Manager, Firmware Upgrade, then Upgrade License.

Licenses say "2030" so that is good but at top it talks about 60 days.

So I tried the VXDIAG VCX NANO GDS2, and seemed to have got the cracked software installed after disabling anti-virus or it will go nuts. I can connect to the 2011 CTS, it is been able to get it to show me useful DTC history.

You must load the software components in the right order. But first go to VXDIAG.NET and

  1. Please download latest vx manager .
  2. After download, please install the new vx manager.
Update the Firmware

  1. Then connect device to laptop, laptop connecting network.
  2. Open new vx manager, click "Firmware" to update
Update the License

  1. Click "Update license" to renew on the vx manager.

then

  • Install the VM software (i prefer load it on VM)
  • Install the VX software (the VX software is for the diagnostic connector that connects to the car, and takes the place of GM's MDI)
  • Use the Tech2 Win auto-install
  • Install the GM MDI Manager

Important
Before you open Tech2Win, you must first open and run the VX Manger software and connect the vehicle connector (blue thing) to the USB, so the VX manager recognizes it.

I have not had to use it for pass through programming, but from what I've seen it is supposed to be able to pull firmware from acdelcotds and flash to the various modules in the vehicle.
If nothing else, it is really nice to be able to view more than just the standard pcm data that regular odb2 scanners do. For example, my traction control keeps encountering errors, this lets me know the problen is somewhere in the driver side front wheel speed sensor signal. On my CTS it let me know my traction control random errors were coming from a bad steering wheel position sensor.
